Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received former Jubilee Party legislators from Central Kenya on Saturday, and they reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Kwanza administration in Kenya.
The DP held in-depth discussions with the parliamentarians who lost in the most recent elections at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.
Gachagua expressed his gratitude for having the former parliamentarians he worked with in the previous Parliament in his home and that he was willing to collaborate with everyone to make President William Ruto’s administration successful.
The former lawmakers, who have been vocal opponents of President Ruto’s leadership and who backed Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition as the coalition’s presidential candidate in the most recent elections, told the DP that they were pleased that the President was the winner in a fair election and were prepared to stand by the current government.
“Regardless of being in Jubilee, they acknowledged that Dr William Ruto was legitimately elected President; being Democrats, they recognised the will of the people and applauded him,” said the DP, who served as an MP for Mathira in the previous Parliament.
The DP’s mission to make sure the leaders weren’t left behind in the growth of the area and the nation continued with the meeting on Saturday.
Gachagua said that, while they carried out the revolutionary Kenya Kwanza Plan, he was simply interested in welcoming everyone, regardless of their historical political disagreements.
“We were the closest colleagues, but after the memorable handshake on March 9, 2018, terrible politics caused us to split ways.” The DP said, “We have taken some time to wrap up and evaluate the politics that split us.”
The leaders distanced themselves from the violent rallies held by the Azimio alliance and the attempts to revive Mungiki made by some local leaders, including Jubilee Secretary General Kanini Kega and former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.
“They no longer participate in Azimio protests or efforts to resurrect violent gangs to wreak havoc on society, “Gachagua said.
The leaders vowed to uphold elected officials as they served the public and respect the will of the voters expressed in the most recent election.
