Human Trafficking: Two men arrested in Makupa, Mombasa, for trafficking 17 Ethiopians in a truck

DCI’s TOCU detectives arrest a driver and a turnboy, rescue 17 Ethiopian men believed to be victims of human trafficking, and intercept them at Makupa Bridge. All must be arraigned in court.

Today, detectives from DCI’s Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) arrested a driver and his turnboy, rescuing 17 people believed to be victims of human trafficking, a serious crime and grave violation of human rights.

According to intelligence, the sleuths set up a trap at Makupa Bridge and intercepted Richard Mbeke’s Isuzu truck, Reg. No. KCL 849M.

The lorry’s driver and his turnboy, Joseph Ndung’u, rescued 17 men of Ethiopian origin from the carriage and escorted them to Makupa Police Station.

A Mombasa court will arraign the entire group Thursday morning.

Kenyans expressed their social dissatisfaction with the DCI officers’ work.

“Was there any noise? The fact that they were quiet shows that there was an agreement between the driver, the turnboy, and the guys. To be honest, I don’t think two men could effectively restrain 17 people,” Jay Joel posed on Twitter.

“How did they manage to cross the border? What was their mission in Kenya? To know who was behind this, I need a thorough interrogation,” he added.
