The famous UDA Hotel in Nyeri closed. The owner claims that since he painted the hotel with UDA colours, paying rent has been an issue.
The small restaurant had been doing well in 2021, 2022, and up until 2023. However, since the start of 2024, the customers have disappeared.
He added that some of his friends suggested renaming his hotel, or simply adding F (UDA), which could mean “for every farmer.”
Paying rent has been a challenge for the entrepreneurs living in Nyeri town. He added that the UDA is the most hated political party, and no one wants to be associated with it.
“When people come to eat in this small restaurant, they think they will be associated with UDA. People look at customers coming from this hotel with suspicion. Now paying rent is a challenge,” the businessman said.
Friends advised him that naming a hotel after a political party was a mistake. Remember, people’s political opinions can change at any time, depending on the economic situation. This idea worked well during and a few months after the election. It was definitely doomed to fail.
