IEBC social media admin, Jonathan Kiprono, 41, sacked after he referred to BBI as Burning Bridges Initiative. The Elgeyo Marakwet County man claimed to be the younger brother to West Marakwet constituency Mp, William Kipsang.
The tweet has ignited mixed reactions online with many praising it for calling out BBI for what it is as challenging independence of the electoral body.
“Happening now: The launch of the Burning Bridges Initiative supporters verification exercise at the Bomas of Kenya,” the electoral body IEBC tweeted.
“Earlier today, the Commission posted a tweet on the launch of the Verification of BBI supporters. However, there was a typographical error in the tweet which was made inadvertently. The error does NOT any in way reflect the position of the Commission or its staff, ” the IEBC said in a statement.
With the signature verification kicking off today, the commission says the verification may take almost six months.
