Kenyans living in the United States trooped to the streets of Washington, DC, outside the International Monetary Fund headquarters, blaming them for economic interference while demanding an end to crippling loans.
Hundreds of Kenyans bemoaned the ongoing debt that the IMF’s loans had brought to their country, and as they chanted anti-IMF slogans, they grieved for the over 50 Kenyans who had lost their lives in the last month’s protests.
They also held President William Ruto accountable for the government’s waste of public funds, citing his endless benchmarking trips abroad as a contributing factor. They claimed that Kenyans have not benefited much from these trips.
They called for an end to neo-colonialism, advocating for financial sovereignty and sustainable development.
The main goal is to bring Kenya to its knees, turning its citizens into beggars with all their resources up for auction at any given time.
