In response to Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition protests, their leader, Raila Odinga, is calling for widespread protest, with already hundreds of people from the city of Kisumu gathered in the streets.

When the demonstrators chanted from Kondele to the Central Business District of the city, transportation was halted in a number of different locations in the city.

As a result of the participation in the demos in the city on the lakeside during the nonviolent demonstration, a variety of stores owned by businesspeople were also closed.

They argued that they were unable to compete due to the high cost of living.

“When we were on our way to Huduma Center to deliver a message to Kisumu County Central Assistant County Commissioner Hussein Hallaso, the mob followed us the whole way and yelled anti-Ruto chants the whole time.”

Mathews Owili, the Deputy Governor of Kisumu County, said that there would be peaceful protests every day until March 19, 2023, as a way to get ready for the big rally that Raila said would happen in Nairobi on March 20.

Owili said that the people of Kisumu want to show the whole world that they support Raila Odinga and that they do not accept Mr. Ruto’s presidency. “As the people of Kisumu, we would really like to demonstrate to the rest of the world that we stand with Raila Odinga,” Owili added.

Elisha Oraro, the speaker for his side, made the point that they would not give up until the conflict was resolved.

When Hussein was reading the statement, he implored the people of Kisumu to maintain their composure.

“I want to appeal to you to stay calm during this time and guarantee that you organize nonviolent protests without harming anyone’s belongings,” he added. “I want to implore you as well to remain calm throughout this moment.”
