Look Up tv shutdown after six years

The fast-paced journalism industry has severely impacted Look Up TV, a prominent media organization in Kenya.

On Friday, June 7, the company announced ending its operations after six years of existence, it would be closing its newsroom.

As they were thanking fans and appreciating them for their consistent support, Look Up TV journalist Tende Anyula made the declaration during a live news programme.

The news caster indicated that the Friday broadcasting was part of their final shows, but he did not specify the reason for shutting down the operation.

“Every path that begins also ends. Today we are formally discontinuing the station’s Kiswahili and English broadcasts,” he stated, signalling the end of Look Up TV’s voyage that began six years ago.

The newcaster also appreciated the viewers who have been part of the crucial journey towards achieving their six years success.

The Journalists have been giving viewers something to watch and smile for the past years. However, due to unfavourable business conditions, the company had to close its doors with head high for the future. He concluded, “We appreciate all of your viewers.”

That was the last broadcast and viewers will not be able to watch that channel again. The company has over 200 workers and they will all rendered jobless by the end of June 2024.

He announced, “We have suspended our bulletins. We will close this channel in the near future”

“All journalists and other employees who lost their jobs due to the closure will be affected,” according to Look Up TV’s announcement.

The newsreader sent best wishes to all the reporters as the station went dark.

Nancy Nelima, Pheona Kenga, Simba Elijah, Charles Kiage, Evie Maina among others will be rendered jobless at Lookup Tv.

Look Up’s revelation comes at a time when many Kenyan media outlets are struggling to adapt to the new realities of the journalism industry.
