Machakos county voters now have a new chance to re-elect a new senator on March 23, the IEBC declares in a gazette notice.
All political parties planning to engage in the by-election, are expected to submit candidates names before Monday, January 4.
Simultaneously, parties proposing to present candidates through direct nominations will be required to do so before Monday, January 18.
Candidates vying as independent candidates will be required to submit their names and symbols before January 4.
Political party candidates nominations will be conducted on January 25 and January 26. The submission of the nomination papers will be before four o’clock on the same dates.
The campaigns will begin on Monday, January 25 and end on Saturday, March 20, 48 hours to the by-election.
The Machakos senate seat became vacant following the death of Senator Boniface Mutinda. The Senator died at Nairobi Hospital after failing sick at Esther Mulis’ apartment in Kilimani Estate.
