Pastor Mackenzie’s assistant, Joseph Juma Buyuka, dies in Malindi prison over a hunger strike

Widely debated pastor Paul Mackenzie, the head of the Shakahola cult, suffered a loss when one of his assistants was taken into jail by the authorities.

At the same time that Paul Mackenzie, his wife Rhoda Maweu, and 15 other people came facing a Shanzu Court, the Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda was told about the death of the assistant.

It is stated that Joseph Juma Buyuka, who passed away two days ago, refused to eat or drink water before passing away in the hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Additionally, two other suspects are still being treated.

The probe, which is being directed by Yamina Jamii, has asked for an additional sixty days so that they may finish their inquiries.

Defence counsel Wycliffe Makasembo objected to the motion, which said that individuals had been subjected to psychological torture at the hands of the state.

This development emerges as the third part of the postmortem examination process for the remains that were excavated from the Shakahola forest has begun at the Malindi mortuary.

On Wednesday, 27 autopsies were performed, and it was determined that malnutrition was the cause of death for 16 of the corpses examined.
