The turmoil at Scott Christian University in Machakos has escalated, with unconfirmed reports suggesting the resignation of the entire university council, including Vice Chancellor Morompi Ole-Ronkei.

This latest development is set to compound the ongoing crisis over unpaid wages that has disrupted academic activities since last year.

The Vice Chancellor reportedly communicated to the institution’s student leader that the entire council had resigned and that he had also stepped down.

“The entire council has resigned. I have done the same,” the Vice Chancellor stated, as seen in a screenshot now circulating across the school’s WhatsApp groups.

Although there hasn’t been any official communication yet, we anticipate an official statement within the week.

Earlier this year, university staff who have not received their salaries since September 2023 halted their services, leading to a four-month closure of the institution.

When the university reopened on May 20, students believed the financial issues had been resolved.

Last week, staff members announced another cessation of service due to continued non-payment of salaries.

The students’ dissatisfaction with Vice Chancellor Morompi Ole-Ronkei adds to their frustration.

Students have accused him of incompetence and a lack of communication, noting that he has failed to call any meetings since the school reopened.

“We must remove him due to his incompetence,” said an anonymous student. Since the school opened, he has never called a meeting.”

The school president led the student body in a letter to AIC Bishop Abraham Mulwa, attaching signatures, to address these issues and demand immediate action, but neither the church nor the university administration has responded.

The ongoing crisis has left students and their parents in distress.

Many have paid their school fees in full, expecting uninterrupted academic progress.

“They are really wasting our time,” lamented our source.

“Our parents are really in pain.”

In 1962, the Africa Inland Church Kenya established Scott Christian University, formerly known as Scott Theological College, as its national theological college to offer advanced academic training for church ministries.

Peter Cameron Scott, who led the African Inland Mission in Kenya in 1895 and later developed into the Africa Inland Church as one of its ministries, inspired the college’s name.
