Migori Senator Oketch Eddy Gicheru’s Creative Economy Support Bill 2024 comes to parliament, and there are four main things that stand out from the bill.
The CS, which is in charge of trade matters, will establish and maintain an online platform where people in the creative industry can publish events and current affairs.
An established Creative Fund will receive funding from grants and Parliament-appropriated money.
The fund will distribute grants to creatives. To be eligible for a grant from the Creatives Fund, one will have to be 35 years of age or younger.
There will be an established Creative Industry Guild consisting of PS industry representatives, film industry representatives, music industry representatives, and fashion industry representatives.
Others include representatives from the software and gaming industries, representatives from the literary arts, representatives from the visual arts, and representatives from the dance industry. Each will serve for 4 years, renewable once.
The bill seeks parliament’s approval through legislation and is taken to the president to sign.
