Over 116 lawmakers have reportedly signed a motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, putting him on the verge of impeachment. They will impeach him this week, before President William Ruto returns from his visit to the United States.
According to sources, President William Ruto might present the motion before his return from his US trip on Saturday, September 28.
MPs do not sit on Fridays to allow them to return to their constituencies for local engagements.
According to reports, Members of Parliament (MPs) are increasingly supporting the move to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Supporters of the majority party’s leader, Kimani Ichungwa, are accusing the Deputy President of constitutional violations, legal breaches, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.
MPs have also expressed concern over Gachagua’s controversial remarks about the Mt. Kenya region’s share in the Kenya Kwanza government, as well as his alleged role in promoting divisive politics.
Additional charges include accusations of violating the Official Secrets Act and undermining the Cabinet’s collective responsibility.
