Today, the High Court anticipates the appearance of former acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, who will also commence his sentencing for contempt of court over Kitengela 3’s disappearance. The killer squad released Aslam and Jamil intact.
Jamil Longton and his brother Aslam were dumped at the Gachie border between Kiambu and Nairobi by their captors. Citizens are currently advocating for Bob Njagi’s release prior to Masengeli’s sentencing.
Matatu was intercepted, resulting in Bob Njagi’s abduction. The masked men, who allegedly had IDs similar to DCI’s, dragged him out under the pretext that he had a gun. It’s over one month now, and he has never resurfaced.
“I’ve heard that their captors dumped Jamil Longton and his brother Aslam at the Gachie border between Kiambu and Nairobi. Every prayer and intervention made a difference. We thank God that they are safe!” According to LSK President Faith Odhiambo,
However, the new IG’s swearing in has pushed the former acting IG to release some of the activists. The Kitengela 3 were abducted during the aftermath of Nane Nane protests in Kitengela.
Police have denied holding three people believed to have been abducted in Kitengela town last month.
In a joint press conference with DCI boss Mohamed Amin shortly after taking oath of office Thursday, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja sought public assistance in the trio’s search.
“You are aware that I have just taken over the office, but what I want to mention is that what I have gotten from our officers is that we don’t have the Kitengela three with us, but what I know is that a report was made and we have got an active investigation,” Kanja said at Jogoo House, Nairobi.
This Thursday marks exactly one month since people believed to be police forcefully abducted Longton Jamil (42), his brother Aslam Longton (36), and FreeKenya Movement coordinator Bob Njagi in Kitengela on Monday, August 19, 2024.
The FreeKenya Movement believes that Njagi’s abduction was a result of his solidarity with Jimi Wanjigi during the businessman’s arrest and overnight detention at the Kamukunji police station.
Despite the Jamil brothers’ release and timing, the movement maintains that the former acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, who is currently facing court orders, a 6-month jail term, and the replacement by the new Inspector General, is solely responsible for their abduction.
