The grandson of the late President Daniel Arap Moi was arrested in Ongata Rongai after evading authorities for seven months over contempt of court charges related to neglecting child support obligations.
Collins Kibet Toroitich Moi is accused of failing to comply with previous court orders related to child support for his two children sired with Gladys Jeruto Tagi.
Following seven months of evasion, Collins Kibet, grandson of former President Daniel Moi, was taken into custody on Wednesday in Ongata Rongai.
A court in Nakuru has ordered him to provide financial support for his two children, but he has failed to do so. He is now facing charges of disobedience.
The arrest of Mr. Kibet took place on Wednesday morning at his residence in Ongata Rongai, which is located in Kajiado County, according to Gladys Jeruto Tagi, who is represented by attorney Elizabeth Wangare.
He was reportedly trying to evade arrest by working with police insiders and giving information to informants.
Ms. Wangare previously told the court that the suspect’s deceptive tactics were making it challenging for law enforcement and private investigators to execute the arrest warrant they had issued on April 30.
Since he disobeyed his obligation and did not appear before the court, Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion imposed an order for his arrest.
