Impeachment tension in Murima, DP Gachagua undersiege

According to allegations made by a group of Members of Parliament (MPs) who are in alliance with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, there is an ongoing effort to remove him from his administrative position.

The parliamentarians claim they have already drafted a resolution calling for Gachagua’s removal from office, and they could present it to the National Assembly as early as next week.

In a text message, a member of parliament closely associated with Gachagua made reference to these political events.

“More than fifty members of parliament from the United Democratic Alliance, the ODM, Wiper, and Independent MPs came together last night to show their support for Riggy G in the face of impending impeachment rumors.

“However, when approached, the members of parliament who were purportedly present at the meeting have neither acknowledged nor denied their participation,” insiders at DP Gachaugua said.

The resolution to impeach the president is presently in the hands of the Kenya Kwanza leadership, according to those with knowledge of the situation inside Parliament.

The insiders, who provided their statements under anonymity, informed our sources that they may present the proposal to the National Assembly the following week.

The announcement comes only a few days after forty-eight parliamentarians made public their support for Professor Kithure Kindiki, the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior, as their chosen spokesman and liaison between Parliament and the executive branch.

Leader of the Majority Kimani Ichung’wah’s request for President William Ruto to rid his cabinet of “excess baggage” over the weekend sparked further speculation.

People generally understood this remark as a veiled reference to some members of his administration.

The scenario has increased the level of tension inside Parliament, with many members reportedly in a difficult position over whether or not to support or oppose the prospective vote of impeachment.

It is a politically volatile period, and the uncertainty comes at a time when sections within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, which is now in power, look to be splintering over some important leadership concerns.
