Moses Kirima, a member of parliament representing Imenti Central, has voiced his worries with the sudden change in leadership that occurred as a result of the majority decision to impeach Rigathi Gachagua, the Deputy President.
Kirima reported that members of parliament from Meru supported the motion, hoping that Kithure Kindiki, currently serving as the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior, would become the next deputy president.
Nevertheless, Kirima has observed an increase in the number of political candidates interested in running for the job as a result of Gachagua’s impeachment.
” In light of the fact that Kindiki is likely to be nominated as the new Deputy Prime Minister, we Meru Members of Parliament signed that impeachment.
“But since we signed the impeachment, things have drastically changed.” Numerous groups and tribes exert a significant amount of lobbying. I am concerned because of the complexity of the situation.
” Nothing should change; number two should replace impeached number one.
“I hoped to gain recognition when I declared that Gachagua would not face impeachment.”
” I would not have voted out Gachagua if it were not for Kindiki,” Kirima said.
“This would have been the case.”
Kimani Ichung’wah, the leader of the National Assembly’s Majority; Gladys Wanga, the governor of Homa Bay; Anne Waiguru, the chairwoman of the Council of Governors; Irungu Kang’ata, the governor of Murang’a; and even Raila Odinga, the contender for the chairmanship of the AUC, are among those who are purportedly positioning themselves.
Kirima asserts that these individuals have endeavored to secure the support of Meru Members of Parliament for their aspirations to become deputy president, a role he and others initially expected Kindiki to assume.
The members of parliament voiced their displeasure with this new situation, especially in light of the comments made by President William Ruto, who indicated that Kenya’s future deputy president will really be a woman.
He emphasized that Parliament’s allegations, not the head of state’s influence, formed the basis for Gachagua’s impeachment. This was in contrast to the alternative explanation that he offered.
“I want to make it clear that there was never a moment when William Ruto sought our assistance in impeaching Gachagua. ” Parliament has read the charges.
“He went on to explain that we possess our brains and our awareness.”
As part of her argument in favor of Kindiki’s elevation, Kirima emphasized that the Cabinet Secretary for the Interior has a thorough understanding of the issues affecting the county, thereby eliminating the need for additional explanations of their concerns.
