Acting SHA CEO Elijah Wachira has issued a directive that lists six bank accounts for the remittance of wage deductions from salaried employees to SHIF.
Employers are required to channel contributions by the 9th of each month into the following bank accounts.

“Social Health Insurance Fund” is the name of all bank accounts.
Civil servants and other public service employees now want a separate and more advanced cover than the normal SHIF cover.
MPs have questioned the legality of the government’s extension of the Sh6.7 billion comprehensive medical insurance cover for civil servants, saying it violates the Social Health Insurance Act (SHI) Act.
The Public Service Principal Secretary, Amos Gathecha, sent a letter on October 9, 2024, announcing the extension of the cover to November 21, 2024, and later rolling it out as a managed fund outside of the SHI Act, which is the source of the MPs’ concerns.
Yesterday, MPs Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South) and Jessica Mbalu (Kibwezi East) warned that the extension of the cover is akin to reintroducing the repealed National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) through the backdoor.
“They repealed the NHIF Act, which permitted them to offer commercial insurance benefits to government employees. What law is in use to offer commercial insurance arrangements to civil servants?” Mr. Kibagendi posed
