The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has opened a new regional office in Nairobi. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi graced the ceremony.
“I am honored to have graced the opening of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s new regional office in Nairobi.”
“This office joins others across Africa, including in Dakar, Addis Ababa, Abuja, and Johannesburg, as part of a broader commitment to partnership across the continent,” Mudavadi said.
For the purpose of establishing a sub-regional office of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Kenya, the Cabinet of President William Ruto had earlier unanimously given its approval.
” We are delighted that the Gates Foundation joins numerous international organizations based in Nairobi to support areas aligned with our development goals.
“These include advancing health priorities, increasing the productivity of smallholder farmers, deepening financial inclusion and supporting women’s & communities’ economic empowerment.
“Together, these partnerships contribute to a healthier, more prosperous future for all Kenyans. Present were State Department for Foreign Affairs, PS, Dr.Singoei Korir.
Ms. Gargee Ghosh, President Global Policy and Advocacy, Dr. Chris Elias, President Global Development Division at the Bill and Melinda Foundation, and Dr. Paulin Basinga, the foundation’s director for Africa,” Mudavadi posted on X.
One of the conclusions reached at the discussion that took place at State House in Nairobi was that the presence of the office inside the country would be attractive to investors.
“The Cabinet has given its approval for the sub-regional office of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to be located in Kenya,” said a statement on the Cabinet Resolutions.
“The relationship will promote healthcare, agricultural transformation, and economic development, which will bring additional investments to the nation,” the statement reads.
Alfred Mutua, the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, met with Samburu Wa-Shiko, the regional representative of the Foundation, on February 14. During their meeting, they discussed the possibility of establishing a sub-regional official in Kenya.
Additionally, Bill and his divorced wife, Melinda, who co-chairs the Foundation, have committed to spending seven billion dollars (Sh877 billion) on aiding African nations over the next four years.
The Foundation has dedicated its efforts in the nation to a variety of causes, including agriculture, gender equality, and basic health care, among others.
