President William Ruto has requested China’s support for Kenya’s aspiration to join BRICS and for the election of Kenya’s nominee for the chairman of the African Union Commission.
The win of Donald Trump has drastically altered President William Ruto’s worldview, pushing him to contemplate joining BRICS and heading towards the East. Prior to this, he had assumed that Joe Biden would seek a second term or that Kamala Harris would emerge victorious.
Kenya, as a non-NATO ally member, given by the former US President Joe Biden, the status is on the crossroads.
As part of bilateral discussions, the highest-ranking Chinese official, Li Xi, arrived in the capital of Kenya this week. The Nairobi State House was filled with officials, including William Ruto, who greeted him at the door.
President William Ruto made a commitment to deepen the relations that exist between the two countries over the course of the negotiations.
President William Ruto stated in his statement, “Kenya is committed to fostering collaboration across Africa and upholding the ‘One China’ policy.”
Through the strategic cooperation that they have established, the two countries are working together on various development initiatives throughout the country.
Additionally, Ruto has sent a request to China for assistance in achieving Kenya’s goal of becoming a member of the BRICS group of growing national economies.
Currently, the members of the BRICS group are responsible for around 28 percent of the world’s GDP.
Brazilian, Russian, Indian, and Chinese citizens were among the first to join the organization in 2006. 2010 was the year that South Africa became a member of the organization, and at the beginning of this year, numerous additional nations, including Egypt and Ethiopia, joined.
