Man loses Sh300K on fake Autotex online writing account scam

In Kariobangi, a man is counting his losses after a friend reportedly tricked him into buying a fake online writing account. Daniel Mitaki says he paid Nyakundi Omete a total of Sh300,000 in three parts.

Mitaki explained that Nyakundi told him he had a great business idea and could help him with it. The account was called Autotex and was supposed to have special writing features.

Nyakundi asked Mitaki to pay the full amount before he would give him complete control of the account.

After Mitaki made the payment, he received the login details. However, when he opened the account, it did not have the features he expected.

When he asked Nyakundi why the account was not working, Nyakundi told him to wait until he received “10 orders.”

But Mitaki said he did not receive any orders. When he told Nyakundi about this, Nyakundi blamed him, saying he had made mistakes.

He refused to give Mitaki a refund, claiming it was not his fault that the account was not working.

Feeling frustrated, Mitaki went to the authorities for help. Nyakundi was arrested and taken to court, where he denied the charges.

He was released after paying a cash bail of Sh100,000. The case is set to be heard on September 24.
