On the fourth day since Charles Ong’ondo Were, the Member of Parliament for Kasipul, died, more people are starting to talk about him. It seems he had a darker side that many didn’t know about.
Some people in Kasipul are sharing stories about their bad experiences with their former MP.
On April 28, 2025, Edward Odhiambo had a terrible experience. He says he faced the MP’s anger during a funeral. The clothes he wore that day were covered in blood from an attack he barely survived.
This attack happened in front of the MP while people were at a funeral. Another man named Bobby also accused the MP of telling someone to attack him and his brother during a different funeral.
“Bobby said, ‘This guy named Faruk came with a sword. He was about 400 feet away and he attacked me, and I fell down. His thugs came and beat me badly,'” Odhiambo explained.
He still has scars that remind him of the person who was supposed to represent him.
In another part of the constituency, a family has been suffering for fifteen years because of the late MP. They believe he is responsible for the disappearance of their daughter, Dotty Apondi, in 2010.
Dotty’s family says the late MP tricked her into going to Meru by promising her a job. Dotty’s sister was hopeful because she had lost her own job.
However, the family lost contact with Dotty three weeks after she started working.
They tried to find her, but the police didn’t help them, and they faced threats from the late MP when the police tried to investigate his home in Meru.
Despite their persistent search, Dotty’s family found nothing. Sadly, last year, her mother passed away from worry and sadness over not knowing what happened to her daughter.
Her siblings vow to keep searching for answers, even though the man they blame for Dotty’s disappearance has died.
As Odhiambo said, “He did these things because he was in power. Maybe he terrorized many people as the area MP. He acted like a thug.”
All these people reached out for help, but it seems they did not receive much assistance.
