People in Trans Nzoia left a celebration on Madaraka Day on Sunday, just as they were about to hear President Ruto’s speech. This surprised officials at Lessos Primary School.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and his deputy, Philomena Kapkory, were not at the event, which was the first time Natembeya missed this celebration since he became governor in 2022.
Sam Ojwang, the County Health Executive, represented Natembeya at the ceremony led by County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi.
Many local leaders, including MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, also did not attend. Wanyonyi was reported to be on a trip in Singapore for parliamentary work. Because of this, only a few residents, mostly children, were present at the celebration, and the mood was quite low.
