One Dead, 11 Wounded in Mass Shooting at North Carolina Home

One person was killed and 11 others injured in a mass shooting at a residence near Hickory, Catawba County, early Sunday morning, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of multiple people shot shortly after midnight on Walnut Acres Drive, a quiet street lined with two-story homes and broad lawns.

Authorities reported that one of the wounded victims was in critical condition.

The shooting occurred during a party at the residence, attended by over 100 people, when one or more individuals opened fire, investigators told ABC-affiliate WSOC-TV.

Sheriff’s deputies, local police, and state special agents are working to determine a motive for the incident. No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning.

Catawba County, located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains about an hour north of Charlotte, has been shaken by the violence, which marks a rare tragedy in the area.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to identify those responsible.
