Rose Njeri arrested for creating anti-Finance Bill 2025 site

A 35-year-old woman named Njeri was arrested on Friday afternoon, May 30, and is now at Pangani Police Station. She was detained after she started a website that let people easily reject the Finance Bill 2025 with just one click.

Her arrest happened one day after she shared news about the website on her X account.

In her message, she said, “Hi #KOT #KenyansOnTwitter, I created a simple program that lets you reject the Finance Bill 2025 with one click. Click below to send your objection: https://civicemail.netlify.app #RejectFinanceBill2025.”

The website became popular quickly and got a lot of attention before she was taken into custody.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has responded to this arrest. The LSK President, Faith Odhiambo, said that their team met with Njeri after some time. She asked for Njeri to be released right away, showing concern for her detention.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has not yet given any official reason for Njeri’s arrest.

This situation has started a lot of conversations on social media, with many Kenyans using the hashtag #RejectFinanceBill2025 to call for her freedom.
