In a move that’s got folks in Mbeere North buzzing, the Jubilee Party, led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, has announced it won’t be putting forward a candidate for the upcoming by-election set for November 27, 2025.
Instead, they’re throwing their weight behind the opposition’s joint candidate, and it’s stirring up quite the conversation! Pauline Njoroge, Jubilee’s Deputy Organising Secretary, stepped up to clear the air, shutting down rumours that suggested otherwise.
She made it crystal clear that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), chaired by Uhuru himself, hasn’t handed out nomination papers to anyone for the Mbeere North race. In a statement released on Friday, she clarified the situation.
“Jubilee isn’t fielding a candidate. We are aligned with the opposition’s selected candidate. That’s the deal—don’t believe any gossip floating around!” This decision comes hot on the heels of another surprising move in the political arena.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also pulled out of the race, choosing to back the Democratic Party’s (DP) candidate instead.
Meanwhile, the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has picked Leonard Muriuki, popularly known as Leo, to wave its flag in the by-election.
The Mbeere North parliamentary seat opened up after Geoffrey Ruku was tapped to serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, leaving the constituency eager for a new representative.
With Jubilee and DCP aligning behind opposition candidates, the stage is set for an intriguing showdown.
Political watchers are already speculating about what this unity could mean for the opposition’s strength in the region. One thing’s for sure—this by-election is shaping up to be anything but ordinary, and Mbeere North residents are ready for the action!
