Two Members of Parliament, Anthony Kibagendi, representing Kitutu Chache South, and Japheth Nyakundi, representing Kitutu Chache North, clashed over their political disagreements during a funeral in Sensi Ward, Kisii County.
Turmoil erupted at the funeral of Salome Ongwae, the stepmother of former Kisii Governor James Ongwae, leaving attendees in a state of shock.
The drama started as soon as Kibagendi took the microphone and embarked on a passionate diatribe, in which he referred to President William Ruto as a “liar”. “We, as a community and a nation, were duped into electing a president who lies to us,” he said.
Nyakundi, the member of parliament for the local area, finally had enough at that point in time. He raced onto the platform, grabbed the microphone, and attempted to push Kibagendi off, which led to a full-fledged fight breaking out.
In an effort to restore order, law enforcement and security personnel made every attempt to disperse the individuals who were fighting.
The gathering, which included notable figures such as Members of Parliament Silvanus Osoro (South Mugirango), Dorice Donya (Kisii Woman Rep), and Senators Richard Onyanka (Kisii) and Okongo Omogeni (Nyamira), watched as the startling scene unfolded before them.
