Pastor Kanyari Eyes 2027 Politics on UDA Ticket

Pastor Victor Kanyari, the leader of Salvation Healing Ministry in Nairobi, has said he might run for office in the 2027 general elections. He plans to use a ticket from President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance party, known as UDA.

In a recent church service, Kanyari spoke directly about his interest. He told his congregation that by 2027, he sees himself getting into politics. He gave reasons like helping many Kenyans over the years and having a large following in his church. “Nimesaidia Wakenya wengi na niko na wafuasi wengi kwa kanisa yangu. Nitasimama na tiketi ya UDA,” he said. The comments came up as he talked about his work and support from people.

Kanyari’s church is along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi. He has built a big online and in-person audience through live services and social media. Many know him from past controversies, like the 2014 exposé on seed planting for miracles. He closed the church then but reopened it later with a new focus.

This is not the first time politics has come up around Kanyari. Earlier this year, some youth from Mathare endorsed him for higher office, even calling for him to run for president. He smiled but did not say yes or no at the time. In 2024, he criticised the UDA government and told his members not to vote for it again. Things seem to have shifted now.

Kenya has seen other pastors and celebrities join politics. Some win seats, others try and step back. With 2027 approaching, more people from outside traditional politics are talking about running. UDA is holding grassroots elections to build strength ahead of the vote.

Kanyari has been in the news lately for personal matters too. He lost his ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo, to illness last month. They have two children together, and he has spoken about custody talks. He also won an award recently as most influential pastor.

People online have mixed reactions to his political talk. Some laugh it off. Others say his church base could help in elections. Nairobi seats are always competitive, with many candidates.

Kanyari has not said which seat he wants. It could be MP, senator, or something else. He mentioned helping people as his main reason. His church often gives aid and holds big events.

As elections get closer, names like this keep coming up. Celebrities and influencers see a chance to move into government. UDA welcomes new members, especially those with followings.

This story is fresh, and more details might come out soon. Kanyari continues his services as usual. For now, his words have started talks about another preacher in the political ring.

Many watch to see if he follows through. Politics in Kenya pulls in all kinds of people. 2027 will show who makes it to the ballot.
