Awendo man Jared Omondo jailed for five years after he was found guilty of disconnecting electricity illegally.

Rongo Resident Magistrate Raymond Langat found Jared Omondo guilty of involving in unauthorized disconnection of electrical machinery contrary to section 168 (1)(d) of the Energy Act No 1 of 2019.

The perpetrated offence occurred at Marindi Village, Kanyagwal sub-location in Awendo on December 27, 2020.

The criminal has 14 days to appeal failure to which he will serve the set jail term.

The court’s judgment comes after concerns of illegal power connection and vandalism of property belonging to Kenya Power in Awendo and Rongo.

Rongo sub-county administrator Seth Odoyo said the jail term is a lesson to other suspects implicated in this illegal activity.

Mr Odoyo also asked the public to offer any information they have on those vandalising solar lights systems in Rongo town and selling parts.
