The telecommunications company Safaricom has set an end date for the Bonga Points program, which lets users get points for using the network.

The telco will change the terms and conditions of the loyalty program by the end of this month.

The change says that Bonga Points that are more than three years old (as of December 2019) will no longer be redeemable after January 1, 2023.

According to the leaked updated terms and conditions, Safaricom made this move to boost Bonga redemption.

Now that the Bonga Points have an expiration date, consumers can use them to buy things.

Customers of Safaricom get one Bonga Point for every Ksh. 10 they spend on the network.

Some of the rewards you can get with the points are call time (in the form of minutes), data packages, and SMS.

The terms and conditions (Ts and Cs) were last modified in December 2021, and the service started in October 2017.

The goal of Bonga Points expiry is to reduce the Ksh. 4.5 billion that the telco owes to customers because the loyalty program is not being used.
