Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua chaired the first high-profile Nairobi Rivers Commission meeting in a move to clean and rehabilitate the environment.


The deputy president said that it is time to take matters concerning the environment seriously, as they affect many people.

 


"In strengthening our approach to cleaning the rivers in our city and its surroundings, we have brought in the counties of Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, and Makueni."

 


These counties will work with the Nairobi Rivers Commission in rehabilitating the rivers in the city, the surroundings, and the environment downstream as per its mandate.

The respective county governors were present in the meeting, looking forward to means of enhancing the current condition of the rivers in the city.

 


"To enhance the engagement, this afternoon I chaired a meeting of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, the governors, and representatives of the counties," the deputy president said.

 


Their participation in this noble initiative will ensure we restore the glory of our rivers and the environment.
