By demanding exorbitant bribes, they discourage foreign direct investors who are interested in establishing businesses that would employ over 50,000 Generation Z directly and indirectly.
The government wants young people to leave Kenya to become maids and guards in the Middle East while plundering the country’s economy, as political analysts said.
Governor Kimani Wamatangi demanded Ksh 4.3 billion in bribes from investors in Tatu City to approve their projects. Tatu City is one of the largest foreign direct investments in Kenya.
Tatu City has accused Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi and CEC Member Salome Wainaina of extorting KES 4.3B, holding up approvals, and demanding 40+ acres of land.
Economists say this has cost the country KES 16 billion in investment and new 4,500 direct jobs.
