Wanaoshwa Kuoshwa… Kenyans narrate how they lost their money through Equity Bank fraudsters

Equity Bank of Kenya

The testimonies in this #BoycottEquityBank hashtag are shocking and make one wonder if there is a regulator in this country.

The equity fraud cases are rampant and need to be addressed with a full investigation, money refunded, and arrests made.

Equity Bank has, however, given recommendations to its clients. However, the cases portray more of an inside job than outsiders attacking the bank.

Since then, Equity Bank has told people who use their app to do business to avoid using public WiFi.

The bank specified several don’ts that its consumers should follow in order to ward off scammers in a letter sent to its customers.

Do not provide personal information to anybody, including your account number, card or CW number, ID number, date of birth, etc., the bank said. Never reveal your pin, password, or OTP to anybody, not even your friends or family. Never converse with scammers through the phone or SMS. Equity will only call you at 0763 000 000.

In addition, the banking service provider advised its consumers not to hand over their phones, laptops, or computers to random people, including those who claimed to be from telcos.

Equity admitted hearing client concerns about fraud but reassured them that they were taking steps to keep the bank a secure and safe place to do business.
