Govt spends Ksh50M on application, helping traders market goods

The National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture is concerned about potential fund misappropriation within the State Department of Culture, Arts, and Heritage.

The government will be developing an application to help small-scale merchants market their products online.

During her appearance before the committee, Ummi Bashir, who is the Principal Secretary for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, claimed that the process of developing the “world-class” application is already in progress.

Legislators have expressed their concerns about the department’s proposal to invest 100 million Kenyan shillings in the creation of a “Kenyan dress.”

There is a possibility that the State Department, under the leadership of PS Ummi Bashir, established a new benchmark by developing one of the most costly online platforms.

On Thursday, the Principal Secretary revealed to the National Assembly Sports and Culture Committee that they had awarded the project to construct the “Sanaa App” at a total cost of fifty million shillings.

MP Richard Yegon of Bomet East posed the question, “Please explain why this application costs fifty million shillings. I believe that it is excessive.”

According to PS Bashir, in answer to the question, “This app will help people sell their artefacts.”

This cutting-edge application, as stated by the Department of State, functions as a sophisticated marketing platform that allows small-scale merchants to exhibit their wares.

The fact that it would be the first of its sort in Africa was another point that they stressed.
