Former Malindi MP and CS Aisha Jumwa has dumped President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and rejoined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following a series of indoor meetings with the new ODM leadership.
The vocal politician also had a chance to mingle with former colleagues in the Orange Party, including party leader Raila Odinga, Gladys Wanga, and CS Hassan Joho, among others.
Governor Gladys Wanga hosted Raila and ODM leaders for a Thanksgiving ceremony in Rangwe, Homa Bay County, after the exclusive meeting with top ODM bigwigs, where Aisha also joined them
Following the July protests over the finance bill, President William Ruto fired all Cabinet secretaries and gave ODM several slots under the government of national unity, also known as broad-based government.
Following John Mbadi’s appointment to the Cabinet, Governor Gladys Wanga emerged as the ODM chair. The homecoming and Thanksgiving ceremony brought back all ODM elites, including CS Hassan Joho and CS Wyclif Oparanya.
Joining ODM is a calculated move for Jumwa to secure the Kilifi gubernatorial seat.
Sources indicate that before 2026, Gideon Mung’aro, the current governor, and Aisha Jumwa may discuss who will compete in the 2027 general elections.
It is still not clear if the current ODM leadership will mediate or prefer the nomination process ahead of the August 2027 polls.
