Ruto answers Catholic Bishops over “Culture of lies” press

After the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) accused his government of fostering a “culture of deception” and failing to live up to its pledges on crucial issues that impact Kenyans, President William Ruto has responded by retaliating against the KCCB.

On Friday, while attending the graduation ceremony for Tangaza University in Nairobi, President William Ruto issued a nuanced reaction in which he urged all Kenyans, including politicians, clergy, and members of the public, to be truthful while engaged in public debate.

He also issued a caution that “people may become victims of the things they accuse others of doing.”

“Even as we participate in public conversations on subjects that are important to the people of Kenya, we must be cautious and factual lest we become victims of the things we accuse others of doing,” President Ruto said in his speech.

“We must prevent ourselves from being victims of the things we accuse others of doing.”

He continued, “You know what I mean,” as the crowd laughed enthusiastically.

Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) issued a statement on Thursday, criticizing the government of President Ruto for what they described as a deeply ingrained culture of falsehoods, corruption, unmet promises, and wrong priorities.
