Clients in Kirinyaga County are outraged over the thefts of their satellite dishes, which they believe may involve local thieves and potential insider involvement from the “Mawingu” internet service provider.
Residents noted that the dishes were taken from rooftops with remarkable skill, leaving the cables and metal posts behind.
Victims claim that Mawingu has responded with a lack of concern, insisting that customers pay for replacements and reinstallation rather than addressing the thefts or implementing protective measures like tracking systems.
One irate customer shared that they encountered eight others filing similar complaints at the Kutus Police Station.
Some have reported that their calls to Mawingu were abruptly ended when they brought up the theft issue.
“Please expose Mawingu. After welcoming the new year, we woke up to find our network dishes missing from our homes. It’s baffling how someone was able to scale a three-story building and detach the dishes from the roof.
“This is a genuine situation from Kutus in the Kirinyaga area, and it seems that dishes have been stolen throughout the entire county. Oddly enough, when we reached out to the company for information on what they were doing about the situation, they instructed us to pay for new dishes and reinstallation. Additionally, after several attempts to call, we found that the rude and unprofessional customer service representatives would hang up as soon as the theft was mentioned.
“When I went to file a report, I met eight other individuals at the Kutus police station who had the same issue.
The way the satellite dishes were taken indicates a high level of expertise. The cables and metal posts were left undisturbed, leading clients to suspect that the company and their local accomplices might be involved in these crimes.
“It’s truly disheartening. I initially thought these were just tales, but now, just a month after installing this network, I’ve encountered it myself. Mawingu is the worst! “
“They know that the dishes are being stolen but have yet to implement any protective measures, such as installing tracking devices on their equipment. They swiftly demand payment from customers for replacements after a theft while neglecting their concerns and providing subpar service. People should consider boycotting this company.”
