Evans Oanda, a member of the Finance County Executive Committee (CECM) for Mombasa County, has been arrested.
His arrest comes after a court issued a warrant of arrest for failing to pay over Sh67 million to a car dealer as a deal went south.
A Milimani court judge issued a warrant of arrest against Mombasa County Finance CEC Evans Oanda for allegedly failing to pay Sh67 million owed to a car dealer.
Justice Jairus Ngaah directed the OCS Mombasa Central police station to carry out the arrest.
The OCS will bring him before the court to defend himself against a six-month jail sentence for contempt of court.
In December 2018, the courts issued a warrant against Maryam Mbaruk, the then-Mombasa Finance CEC, for similar issues.
However, Justice Ngaah argued that since she is no longer in office and lacks a date to make the payments, it is impossible to hold her in contempt of court.
“Her arrest at this time would be of no consequence,” the judge said.
