Through Adani Energy Solutions LTD Kenya, Adani Holdings has acquired a deal to construct new transmission lines with another company, Africa50 Ltd. Adani Energy acquired a $1.3 billion energy deal through KETRACO, and another deal is still in the process with Kengen.
Davis Chirchir, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, has revealed that the Indian conglomerate Adani Group has also enquired with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO). As the battle for JKIA continues, Adani has acquired transmission lines.
Senator Richard Onyonka of Kisii revealed the alleged agreement between Adani and KETRACO during the committee interrogation exercise on Thursday.
Onyonka stated, “Adani has contractual arrangements to supply power in Kenya through KETRACO. They intend to take over KenGen, and they will be the ones running the insurance system for our healthcare SHIF.”
“Please do your homework. The government, through KETRACO, has awarded PPP concessions to Adani and Africa50 to build new transmission lines.
“They’re recruiting their project teams. The cost of these transmission lines is $1.3b that we do not have to borrow,” David Ndii, statehouse advisor, said.
Given that Adani has actually expressed interest in managing the Gilgil-Thika-Malaa power line under KETRACO, Chirchir, the immediate previous Minister of Energy, encounters final procedures while sharing information
It was brought to his attention, however, that the plan, which is still in the process of being evaluated and going through a twenty-stage due process, has not yet produced any tangible results.
In addition, the CS went on to mention that there are hundreds of public-private partnerships (PPPs) that are now in existence within the energy sector, which includes both generation and transmission.
While there are a number of public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the energy sector at the moment, Adani might be one of the possibilities.
“Various businesses in the generation sector alone have submitted an estimated 150 applications,” he noted.
Before the CS was grilled in the parliament, Adani Energy had already bagged the energy deal. Jobs have been advertised on various platforms as they look forward to kickstarting the project.
