A concerned customer has raised an alert after visiting a Quickmart outlet and discovering a counterfeit product on offer.
He used the KRA-approved Soma Label app to verify the product’s authenticity, but it failed the check.
The customer reports receiving a hostile response from a store attendant, after which he opted to purchase a different brand of gin that passed the verification.
The store manager, in an attempt to smooth things over, offered the gin at a discounted price and requested the customer to “let it slide.”.
After visiting the Quickmart store, sources who wished to remain anonymous stated, “I am doing this purely for public awareness.”
“I visited the Quickmart Outlet, but I won’t reveal the specific branch’s name. They even went so far as to tell me about the counterfeit version of a newly launched brand.
“I say counterfeit because I attempted to confirm its authenticity using the verified app KRA called SOMA LABEL, but it failed.”
“A Mumamaz, seated nearby, exhibited extreme hostility towards me as a client.
“I opted for a different brand in the store, Best Gin 750ml, and the verification process was successful.”
“The manager later came and told me to let it slide after giving me the gin at a bargain price.”
“Let the public know about the Soma label and avoid all counterfeit drinks. Better safe than sorry.”
