Kericho Governor Eric Mutai faces impeachment over sexual abuse (docs)

An impeachment motion against Kericho Governor Eric Mutai, citing multiple allegations of misconduct, has plunged him into a serious political crisis.

The motion, spearheaded by Sigowet Ward MCA Kiprotich Rogony, accuses the Governor of gross constitutional violations, abuse of office, and misconduct that have tarnished the county government’s reputation.

Sexual Misconduct

The motion details disturbing claims from female partners who allege that Governor Mutai has engaged in non-consensual sexual acts.

Pseudonyms will represent the victims during the hearings to protect their identities as they seek anonymity.

Land Grabbing

Governor Mutai allegedly led a mob to invade Mr. Joseah Kiplangat Kogo’s private property on his second day in office.

The governor reportedly tore down a fence and designated the land as an illegal dumpsite operated by the county government without proper authorisation from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) or adherence to a court order.

County officials are intimidated.

Reports indicate that Mutai has fostered a toxic work environment through intimidation and harassment of county officers who do not comply with his directives.

Misappropriation of Funds

The impeachment motion also stems from investigations into the misappropriation of Ksh 14.5 million raised for victims of the Londiani Junction accident.

Allegations suggest mishandling of funds intended for medical and funeral expenses, leading to public outcry from affected families who feel cheated out of promised support.

Governor Mutai will have the opportunity to defend himself against these serious charges on October 2.

Mother and joyful journalist.
