Chaos erupted at the Kenya School of Government last Friday when students outraged by the newly introduced Higher Education Funding (HEF) model clashed fiercely with Ministry and HELB officials.
What was supposed to be a smooth public engagement quickly descended into a battleground of discontent, where the so-called “public engagement” was nothing more than a staged performance for the cameras.
According to reports, each student received Ksh 4,000 to attend the meeting and give the impression that they supported the HEF model.
Media houses, once again misleading the public, tried to spin the narrative as if only private universities had rejected the new funding model, when in reality it was students across the board from all institutions that made the decision.
There are numerous rumors that University of Nairobi (UON) student leaders received Ksh 50,000 each to vote in favor of the model, leading to their swift expulsion from the venue by their furious peers.
The true intentions behind the event became glaringly obvious.
The government made a desperate attempt to fake consent, only to encounter the students’ unwavering resistance.
