Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi has called for the dissolution of the Kenyan Parliament if the executive at the State House makes all of its decisions.
Senator Edwin Sifuna stated that dissolving parliament was necessary if the State House, rather than parliament, was to make all parliamentary decisions.
This statement comes in the wake of President William Ruto’s decision to dissolve his Cabinet, reflecting ongoing debates about governance, the separation of powers, and the role of Parliament in Kenyan politics.
“I cannot accept the position that we are going to negotiate the division of revenue at the State House. That is not going to happen,” Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has said.
“It is impossible for a Treasury Cabinet Secretary to inform us that the maximum amount of money he can provide to county governments is KSh 380 billion.”
“What is the role of Parliament? We should dissolve Parliament and let Mbadi make all decisions on the money he wants to send. What is the point of us sitting here?”
“Let us execute our constitutional mandate.” Sifuna continued, “We can make any additional adjustments elsewhere.”
